Annie Hsiao-Ching Wang (b. 1972, Taipei, Taiwan) is a multidisciplinary artist known for her photography, oil paintings, mixed media works, and academic contributions exploring female identity and creativity. She holds a PhD in Art from the University of Brighton in the UK and is currently an assistant professor at National Dong Hwa University, as well as the director of Ching Tien Art Space.
Wang gained international attention for her photographic series that redefines motherhood as a deeply creative and empowering experience. Her work, which has been featured by The New Yorker, BBC, and Taiwan’s Journal of Taipei Fine Arts Museum, challenges stereotypes and celebrates maternal identity as an evolving artistic process. In 2018, Portrait Magazine named her one of the top 25 most influential people.
Her work has received numerous accolades, including the Judges’ Special Award from Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2012. From 2014–2016, her art represented Taiwan in traveling exhibitions across more than 20 countries.
Wang’s exhibitions span prestigious international venues such as the Manchester Photography Festival (UK), Novosibirsk Festival (Russia), Yes Taiwan Biennial (2012), Biennial of Photography in Geneva (2019), Images Vevey (Switzerland), Photoville (New York), Daegu Photo Biennale (Korea), Photolux (Italy), and AIPAD (New York, 2023), among many others. Her work continues to reshape the narrative around womanhood, motherhood, and identity in contemporary art.
