Brad Temkin (b. 1956) is a Chicago-born photographer best known for his exploration of the contemporary landscape, particularly how humans interact with and alter the natural environment. His work often focuses on green architecture, urban gardens, and sustainable infrastructure, presenting a thoughtful perspective on the intersection of nature and the built world.
Temkin’s photographs are held in major public collections, including The Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago. His images have been widely published in Aperture, TIME, Black & White Magazine, and European Photography.
He has received several prestigious awards, including an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship in 2007 and a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2017. His first monograph, Private Places: Photographs of Chicago Gardens, was published in 2005 by the Center for American Places. His second book, ROOFTOP (Radius Books, 2015), documents green rooftops in cities as an innovative solution to environmental challenges.
Since 1984, Temkin has been an adjunct professor at Columbia College Chicago, where he continues to teach and mentor emerging photographers.
